Benzoic Acids, Benzamides and Toluenes in the Rabbit by H. G. Bray, Brenda

چکیده
The previous papers of this series (Bray, Thorpe & White, 1951, 1952e; Bray, Humphris, Thorpe, White & Wood, 1952b, c, d) reported a study of the kinetics in vivo of some reactions involving benzoic acid and some of its precursors, certain precursors of phenols and a series of substituted phenols. A mathematical model was worked out which could account for the effect upon metabolic fate of dose level, nuclear substituents, quantitative differences between the metabolism of precursors and their conversion products, and species differences. These investigations have now been extended by studying the metabolism in the rabbit of various nuclear substituted toluenes, benzamides and benzoic acids. It has been found that the metabolic processes involved follow kinetics similar to those already reported and values are given for the appropriate velocity constants. There appeared to be no correlation between these values and the size or electronic nature of the substituents.

The fate of certain organic acids and amides in the rabbit; nitrobenzoic acids and amides.
Studies in vitro (Bray, James, Ryman & Thorpe, 1948a) have shown that rabbit-liver extracts are able to hydrolyze all three nitrobenzamides. The para isomer is most readily attacked, the average hydrolysis being 82 %; under the same conditions the meta and ortho isomers are hydrolyzed to the extent of 31 and 23 %, respectively. It was, therefore, of interest to study the metabolism of these com...
متن کاملThe Fate of Certain Organic Acids and Amides in the Rabbit
We have already reported (Bray, Ryman & Thorpe, 1947) upon the fate ofp-hydroxybenzoic acid and its amide in the rabbit. The present paper gives the corresponding results for the oand m-isomers. The changes which these compounds might undergo are theoretically the same as those for the p-isomer, i.e. the hydroxyl group may be conjugated with either glucuronic or sulphuric acids and the carboxyl...
متن کاملEfficient and versatile COMU-mediated solid-phase submonomer synthesis of arylopeptoids (oligomeric N-substituted aminomethyl benzamides).
The development of a highly efficient methodology for solid-phase synthesis of para- and meta-arylopeptoids (oligomeric N-substituted aminomethyl benzamides) with free acids or free amides at the C-terminus is described. The arylopeptoids were synthesised by means of a convenient submonomer protocol in which the arylopeptoid residues were created in an iterative manner on the growing chain usin...
متن کامل-Iodo-nitrobenzenes in the Rabbit
In a study of the metabolism of the 19 members of the chloromononitrobenzene series (for summary and references see Table 4 of Bray, James & Thorpe, 1957 b) it was observed that in the rabbit several compounds were converted into mercapturic acids by replacement of a relatively labile chlorine atom. The formation of mercapturic acid by acetylcysteyldebromination of4-bromo-3:5-dichloronitrobenze...
متن کاملDEACETYLATION OF MERCAPTURIC ACIDS BY THE RABBIT, RAT AND GUINEA PIG* By H. G. BRAY
The results of Bray, Franklin & James (1959) suggest that the guinea pig cannot acetylate S-substituted L-cysteines as readily as can the rabbit or the rat. Since the failure to demonstrate acetylation might have been due to the presence of an active deacetylating system (cf. Krebs, Sykes & Bartley, 1947) we have investigated the excretion by the rabbit, rat and guinea pig of some administered ...
